Examining the Effect of Beech Bark Disease on Radial Growth in American Beech
نویسندگان
چکیده
Beech bark disease (BBD) is a significant threat to forests of North America and the impact BBD on radial growth in American beech substantial. We developed novel hierarchical Bayesian (HB) model simultaneously dynamics, tree growth, interaction two. Our can be adapted both emerging more mature forest–pathogen systems aid ecosystem loss predictions. Long-term data from single site minimized potential confounding variables such as climate change, precipitation, land use history, soil conditions that may influence growth. Here, 206 trees were monitored over 15 years at an 85-acre southwestern Vermont, measuring diameter breast height (DBH) progression BBD. allows us accurately estimate error rates severity estimation DBH measurements, true state based environmental variables. As poses threats many species around world, researchers obtain value information their datasets utilizing HB model.

Historical Biogeography of American Beech
American beech (Fagus grandifolia), now a centerpiece species of the eastern deciduous forest, has had a continually changing historical biogeography. This paper reviews the paleoecology, the presettlement occurrence, the modern range, and the current abundance pattern of beech. It synthesizes these four databases into maps representing the distribution and abundance of beech at specific period...

15 صفحه اولA technique to screen American beech for resistance to the beech scale insect (Cryptococcus fagisuga Lind.).
Beech bark disease (BBD) results in high levels of initial mortality, leaving behind survivor trees that are greatly weakened and deformed. The disease is initiated by feeding activities of the invasive beech scale insect, Cryptococcus fagisuga, which creates entry points for infection by one of the Neonectria species of fungus. Without scale infestation, there is little opportunity for fungal ...

A beech bark disease infested American beech tree (Fagus grandifolia Ehrh.) and two uninfested trees were selected in a mature natural stand in Michigan, USA, and mated to form two full-sib families for evaluating the inheritance of resistance to beech scale (Cryptococcus fagisuga Lind.), the insect element of beech bark disease. Four half-sib families from both infested and uninfested trees we...
متن کاملThe distribution and severity of beech bark disease in the Catskill Mountains, N.Y
The distribution and severity of beech bark disease (BBD) in the Catskill Mountains of southeastern New York state, U.S.A., were measured between 1997 and 2000. Forest composition was measured using wedge prism surveys and fixed-area plot counts of canopy species. BBD severity on individual trees was ranked from 1 (no disease) to 5 (dead) based on bark health and canopy loss. These data were an...
